The overlap is that both systems reward the same underlying category of action — tackles, interceptions, clearances — which means a genuinely high-volume defensive midfielder like Rice is now more valuable than ever under the current rules: he has always had a route to BPS-driven bonus through defensive volume, and now has an additional, independent route to DefCon points through the same underlying actions. Anderson, currently on 795 season BPS, is a further example of this same defensive-volume profile — a player whose value is not fully visible in his goals and assists column, and whose case as a genuine differential is reinforced by exactly this combination of consistent BPS-driving defensive actions and DefCon eligibility, rather than either signal in isolation.
Using BPS in Your Squad-Building Process
